Here are some of the places I’ve lived.
“Computer science seems pretty cool I guess”
-me, after my first CS class in high school
Roanoke, VA is where I was born and raised, and it will always have my heart. Growing up, I played soccer and explored the woods around my neighborhood as much as I could. Surrounded by some of the best hikes on the Appalachian Trail, I spent much of my time hiking, rappelling, and driving on back roads on the weekends. My hobbies today are basically the exact same.
“Go Hoos”
-University of Virginia students
Charlottesville, VA is certainly one of the prettiest parts of Virginia, especially in the fall. Whether I was listening to music on my way to class, playing spikeball on the lawn, or driving on mountain roads to a nearby ski resort, my time in Charlottesville was always accompanied with scenic views and lots of activities. Even after two hundred years of updates, UVA, still displays the influence of Thomas Jefferson and his principles in its academics, its architecture, and its traditions.
“I think that’s the Coors factory. I wonder if it tastes better here.”
-my friend Trevor, on a hike above downtown Golden
During the fall of 2020, I was taking classes and interning remotely. I decided to drive to Golden, CO just outside of Denver. I thought there might not be another opportunity in my life where I’d be able to snowboard after work everyday. Equipped with everything I owned, I drove three days across the country and began living in a AirBnBs for three months. Three of my friends joined me after the first month, and together we worked remotely and went to Breckenridge, Vail, and Keystone as much as possible.
After our Airbnb stay ended in Golden, we drove to Park City, Utah to continue our snowboarding journeys. The routine remained the same; get up on east coast time, finish the day two hours earlier than normal, and try to get a couple runs in after work. I have since gone back to Park City and will hopefully continue. The hot tub in the complex across from Fresh Market is elite.
“Literally no one calls Durham ‘D-ham’“
-anyone from D-ham
Despite not being the biggest Duke fan, I enjoyed my time in Durham and loved walking around the Blue Devil’s campus. I moved down in September 2021, when I was working for IBM in Research Triangle Park. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to go into RTP office while I was working there. I soon switched to a contract role with Labcorp, whose office coincidentally is five minutes down the road. At the very least, I was able to play the IBM’s disc golf course many times during my tenure.
“Oh yeah, I’m a consultant“
-everyone who lives here
Currently I reside in Falls Church, VA with my wife. We have a great friend group in the area, and have loved exploring all that DC and the surrounding areas have to offer. Hopefully one day we be able to afford property instead of renting!
